Obituary of Richard W. Toogood

Richard (Dick) W. Toogood, Sr., of Turnersville, New Jersey, passed away on November 30th at the age of 87.

Dick was everyone's friend. Those who knew him remember his quick wit, his generous spirit and that he was someone you could always depend on. Dick graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, Camden, NJ in 1953. He served in the U.S. Army where he was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC followed by service in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was employed at Graphic Arts Inc, Philadelphia, PA until he retired in 1996. Dick met Judy Redmer when she worked at Myrtle’s ice cream shop in Beach Haven, NJ and they married in 1956.

Dick had many passions, such as hunting, fishing, and boats. He and Judy loved being on the water in his last boat, the Sandy Bottom Too. He valued his time with family above all. He had an entrepreneurial spirit starting his own taxidermy business where he challenged himself to create mounts that were as lifelike as possible. After his retirement he continued to touch the lives of so many around him, from driving the tractor at Duffield's Farm for their hayrides to serving at his church, St. John's United Methodist Church, where he met countless lifelong friends. He was inspirational to so many through his mission work in Acuna, Mexico to aid children living in orphanages. Dick's compassionate spirit will be truly missed.

Born to the late James William and Grace (nee Dunn) Toogood on February 25th, 1936. Beloved husband to the late Judith (nee Redmer) who passed in 2002. Caring brother to Carol. Compassionate father to Susan (Gary) Shepherd, Richard (Mary) Toogood, Jr, Amy (Dean) Wenrich, and Andrew (Catherine) Toogood. Loving grandfather to Sarah, Samuel, Daniel, Carleigh, Emily, Heather, and David. Great-grandfather to Benjamin, Luke, Noah, Wyatt, Allison, Charlotte, Levi, Oliver, and Jonathan.

Dick is predeceased by his siblings Dorothy, James William, and Robert, as well as his great-grandchild Henry David.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Saturday, December 9th, 2023 from 9:30am - 11am, followed by a funeral service at 11am located at St. John's Church of Turnersville, NJ, located at 149 Ganttown Road, Turnersville NJ 08012. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Sewell, NJ.

The family wishes to thank the team in the Memory Care Unit at All American Assisted Living, Washington Township as well as Hospice for their compassionate and attentive care. In lieu of flowers, tribute donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
