Obituary of Donald Black

Donald “Don” Black, 66, of Thorofare, NJ, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Monday, February 26, 2024, following an extended illness.

Legacy

Don was born in Philadelpha, PA and grew up in Cherry Hill, NJ. He was a graduate of Cherry Hill West High School. Don met the love of his life, Kate, in 1984, and they raised their family in Thorofare, NJ. Don loved his many years as a truck driver, and the feeling of being his “own boss.” He retired from Riggins Trucking in Thorofare, NJ, in 2022. When he wasn’t working, Don enjoyed spending time with his family at his creek-side home. He found joy in fishing, canoeing, sharing his grilling talents, and indulging in a cigar outside by a fire while watching his grandkids play in the yard. Don loved Philly sports, especially the Phillies. His favorite athletes, however, were his grandchildren. Don was a man who lived a simple life and was immensely proud of his family. He is survived by his wife Catherine “Kate” Black; daughters Kim Sturgis (Harry Waugh) of Somers Point, NJ, Lisa Sturgis of West Deptford, Michelle Hand (Mike) of West Deptford; grandchildren Aydan, Makenzie, Matteo, Mason, Evan and Mikey; niece Rebekah Straka and nephew Robbie Lumpkin. He is predeceased by parents, Lloyd Black and Elizabeth Black-Lumpkin, and brother Robert Lumpkin. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Farewell Tribute

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Sunday, March 3rd from 1:00PM to 3:00PM in the McGuinness Funeral Home - Woodbury, 34 Hunter Street, Woodbury, NJ 08096. Funeral Service at 3:00PM.
