Marcy and I spoke on the phone more regularly over the last dozen years or so, although it could have been and should have been more often. We always spoke about family and shared updates when they were available. We sometimes halfheartedly touched upon current events and always shared information about our current health status. Health, we agreed, was a required topic for those of us who had reached the age of wisdom. We determined that “the age of wisdom” is measured not in years live but in maladies and medical procedures counted.
Marcy was the smartest and most clear-headed of our family. She was the rock for our family as we grew up traversing life’s challenges small and large. It was more than that she was the oldest of the four siblings. It was family circumstances that placed responsibilities on her early. She was the caregiver early on, and she carried that caring throughout her life. She became a nurse, a head nurse. She then focused on her boys and husband.
Marcy loved cats! I believe that she would have gladly traded me for a cat when we were kids, but no one would have taken the trade. Cats, it seems, do not present as many problems.
I already miss my sister and will dearly miss our talks. I know that with her strong faith she is rewarded for the way in which she lived her life. Rest well, sister.
