Obituary of Edna Y. Stauffer

Edna Y. Stauffer, of Deptford, New Jersey, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024.  She was 82.

 

Legacy

Born on October 28, 1941 to Michael and Edna (Yourishin) Yurick. She graduated from West Hazelton High School and Bloomsburg State College. She began her teaching career in Deptford Schools where she taught Kindergarten at Lake Tract School for 38 years before retiring in 2001.

Edna and her husband founded Deptford Girls Softball in 1973. She was inducted into the Deptford Twp. Volunteer Hall of Fame and the Deptford High School Sports Hall of Fame as a contributor to the Sports Program.

 She was awarded a life membership to the New Jersey P.T.A., received a Governor's Teacher of the Year Award and served on Rowan College's Advisory Board to the College of Education. She was the Gloucester County Coordinator of the Reach to Recovery program for the American Cancer Society and received the A.C.S. Volunteer of the Year Award. Edna was chosen as a delegate representing New Jersey to "Celebration on the Hill" to raise cancer awareness. She was also recognized by the Gloucester County Times in its "People who Care" event. Edna remained active with Deptford Girls Softball upon her retirement, she became the trustee for the Deptford Township’s Foundation for Educational Excellence serving for the last 17 years and Grant Chairperson since 2003.

Throughout her years as an educator, Edna was a member of the National, State and local Education Associations. Edna continued membership in the retired educators of all four groups.

 

Family

Edna is predeceased in death by her husband David Stauffer, Sr., a daughter Vicki Stauffer and a son in law Steven Belanger. She was also predeceased by her parents and four siblings, Mickey Yurick, Emil Yurick, Jacqueline Leonard and Shirley Shultz.

She is survived by her children, Christine (Tom) Corbett, David Stauffer and Michael Stauffer. She is "Nan" to three grandchildren Ryan, Randy, and Victoria (Drew) Colligan, and two great grandchildren, Ysabella Brown and Ryder Idler.  Edna is also survived by a step-son, Rob (Michele) Dickson and family. Other survivors include 7 nieces and nephews, 12 great nieces and nephews and 10 great great nieces and nephews. 

 

Farewell Tribute

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Edna's viewing on Friday, May 10, 2024 6 to 9 PM and Saturday 8:30-9:30 AM in the McGUINNESS FUNERAL HOME, 573 Egg Harbor Road, Washington Twp., (Sewell). Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 11, 2024 in Infant Jesus Parish at St. John Vianney R. C. Church at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow in Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro, NJ.
