Joseph G. Mason of Palm Coast, Florida, formerly of Blackwood Terrace, passed away on May 13th, 2024, at the age of 79.

Family

Born to the late Joseph and Mildred (nee McKee) on April 12th,1945 in Camden, New Jersey. Joe is the beloved brother of Carol Sanflippo of Largo, FL. Joe is a 1964 graduate of Deptford High School. After graduation he joined the Marine Corp in hopes of becoming a NJ State Trooper. He volunteered to go to Vietnam, where he received two Purple Hearts. He also received a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal, a Vietnam Campaign Medal, as well as a Good Conduct Medal. Joe worked his way to becoming a 0311 Rifleman. Joe met Peggy (O'Neill) in the Summer of '66 and they were married for 44 years. The pair had three loving children, Joseph (Terry) Mason, Connie Mason, and Summer Green. Joe's world became brighter when he became the loving grandfather of Alex Lavell, Rachel Green, Connor Green, and the great-grandfather to Violet Marie Smock.

After graduating Spring Garden Institute, Joe went to work for Garden State Diesel in Cherry Hill, NJ. In 1975- he opened Diesel Powered Products in Washington Twp. He then expanded in 1977 and opened New England Diesel of Lebanon, NH. In 1985 they purchased a home in Wildwood. They needed pilings so he built his own barge. That's how Anchor Marine Construction was started. He dedicated his life to his work, determined to become successful in his lifetime.

After 44 years together, Joe and Peggy decided to separate. The pair remained friends and loving parents to their children, Grandchildren and Baby Violet. In the late 90's Joe decided to sell New England Diesel. While in New Hampshire he met Lauren (nee Anderson). He insisted that she come to New Jersey to live with him, so Lauren and her son Travis moved to NJ. Joe and Lauren were married February 5th, 2021. They've resided in Palm Coast Florida for the past 13 years. They loved to spend quality time together, going to the Pavillion at the beach and to listen to the bands.

Legacy

While living in New Jersey, Joe was a member of the VFW of Blackwood, The American Legion Post 281 of Blackwood, Masonic Lodge of Mantua and Elks Lodge of Lebanon, NH. Once he moved to Palm Coast, he became a member of Marine Corps League - 876 Flagler County Detachment. He enjoyed meeting "The Guys" at the Elks in Flagler County with his good friend Gene Yavorski. He showed a kindness to anyone he met and would lend a helping hand if needed. When the people Joe helped offered to pay him, he never accepted payment in the form of money. He'd accept a case of beer or a bottle of Captain Morgan. His generosity was never out of personal gain, but helping those who were in need.

Joe is remembered fondly by those who were dear to him as a disciplined, generous, kind man with a dedication to his family and his Country.

In lieu of flowers, please donate in Joe's name to Shriner's Hospital for Children of Philadelphia, PA.
