Obituary of David L. Vogel, Jr.
David Louis Vogel Jr. passed away suddenly on May 22, 2024, at the age of 37. Born to David Vogel Sr. and Vanessa Vogel on October 22, 1986, David was a beloved son, father, brother (Wyatt Kurtz), partner, friend, and colleague whose life was marked by service, love, and passion.
David grew up in Washington Township as a fun-loving child with a zest for life. He loved to swim, play video games, and spend time outdoors, but most of all, David cherished the moments spent with his cousins and the rest of his extended family. He shared a special bond with his grandmother, Jane “Moo” Batoff, who played a significant role in raising him.
David had a passion for entrepreneurship and hard work, running a successful landscaping business with his father and later, opening online businesses and content creating to reach the masses. He was a true Do-It-Yourself man, tinkering with things around the house to either fix or make them better. If David didn’t know how to do something, he tirelessly searched YouTube to find a way. His ingenuity and hands-on skills were admired by many, reflecting his practical nature and creativity.
David’s true vocation in life was to selflessly serve others. He began his career as a firefighter in 2014 in Gloucester County, followed by his EMT in 2014 and worked numerous agencies spanning throughout Gloucester and Camden Counties and later earned his National Paramedic certification in 2019 (Cooper and Virtua). Through his career, he saved countless lives and was a beacon of hope during people's darkest and most vulnerable times.
David’s happy place was at home, surrounded by love, loud music, Nerf Gun fights, and endless dance parties. He loved attending concerts, reading psychology books, watching action movies, playing guitar, and spending quality time with the ones he loved the most. His faith and Christianity brought him peace and guidance throughout his life. Among all of his life's accomplishments, David's greatest joy was the birth of his incredibly loving and resilient daughter, Alaina Victoria (Lianna Tursi). Alaina was the light of his life and brought him immense pride and happiness.
David is preceded in death by his cherished grandmother, Jane “Moo” Batoff, and his best friend, Steve Walls, among others he deeply loved and cared for. He leaves behind his father, David Vogel Sr., his stepmother Terrie Vogel, his beloved daughter Alaina, his devoted girlfriend, Rebecca Woodward, and their dog, Danzig, numerous family members and friends, along with his EMS family.
David's legacy is one of compassion, bravery, and unwavering dedication to others. His impact on the lives he touched will never be forgotten.
“Say, Love, watch me celebrate together. Celebrate we will, ‘cause life is short, but sweet for certain. We climb on two by two to be sure these days continue, things we cannot change.”
