I was so sad to hear that John had passed away. I worked with John for 25 years at the Naval Inactive Fleet in Philadelphia. I will always miss talking with John about family and life in general. John was highly respected by all the Captains he worked under. I coached baseball against John and he was impossible to beat. Everyone in Gloucester County I have ever talked to about John loved him. I remember when he received the Dept of Navy’s highest civilian award for his Voluntary work. I was very proud to have known John and will miss my friend very much. I have not known a better man that touched so many lives.
Rich Wood,
Asst Director, Navy Inactive Fleet, Philadelphia Pa.

My condolences to the Margie Family. Mr. Margie and my father, George T Ford, were friends for many years, until my dad's passing many years ago. My father always had the greatest respect for John. Many nights they could be found at the little league field coaching and managing the youth of Oak Valley. I hope they get a chance to say "hi" again.

Mr Margie was greatest Mentor and friend I will ever know. He extended his mentorship when I was a young at 22 years old. His wisdom , guidance and leadership has made me a better man, husband father and friend. We had monthly dinners for over 20 years .. the dinners we carry for hours as Mr Margie would intrinsically listen and offer his ultimate wisdom which I always trusted and followed. Through this friendship I learned all about Chesty Puller and Smedley Butler. I learned to always be squared away and in order to be the part you must look the part first. I learned to practice , practice then practice what you practiced. I learned the position of the US flag is always starboard of the presenter. Birthdays are only celebrated on November 10th. I framed the the top ten lessons I learned ‘Margie Core Values’ and they are hanging in my kids bedrooms.
I will continue to carry his lessons and will continue to always ask myself .. would Mr Margie approve ?
Thank you for molding me into the man I am and aspire to become. God Bless!
Love
Jack W Kennedy III ‘Eddie’’

Dear Family of John Margie,
I believe the true legacy of John is that the exemplary life of service and kindness to others that John demonstrated throughout this life will live on in the many thousands of people who benefitted by knowing John----and who now strive to somehow contribute to society by following his example. If there was ever a person who qualified as a "role model," it was John. Truly an American hero and man of principle.
It was truly my good fortune, and privilege, to be a friend of John over the years.
Although there is now much sadness, it is certain, in time, that the many wonderful memories you have of John will once again bring a twinkle to your eye, and a smile to your lips, every time you think of him.
With deepest sympathy,
Bryant Heisinger

John was my father's Marine Corps friend. My father George Krauss and USMC former company gunny John Margie, both started the 1st Marine Division in Wenonah, N.J., in 1964, a truly proud time for both veterans. John helped me through a difficult time when I lost my father January 21, 2017, told me alot about my father in the Marine Corps life he lived as well as when they worked at the Philadelphia Naval Base together. Prayers for John and his whole family at this difficult time. He will be remembered as a humble, caring man who helped all organizations throughout his life time. God Bless you John, Thank you for all you did for me and my father. You both are in Heaven together with all your Hero Marine buddies. Semper Fi

I had the honor of having Mr. Margie as my baseball coach on the 1980 Oak Valley A’s. They were the best team I ever was a part of in every way imaginable. Not strictly in the sense of sport but, more importantly, in the sense of learning and growing as a young person. Our coach was the biggest reason for that, of course. It was a short period of time in my life, but I learned a great deal from Mr. Margie, lessons that still instruct me to this day. I know he had that kind of impact on many people over the years, so he will be sorely missed, but even more fondly remembered.

Many years ago I had the distinguished honor of meeting 'former Vet". I am going to miss his support and talks. He was a great man, who lived life to the fullest !!!!! He introduced me (I was the guest speaker) as the "most popular" and the "most competent" Sheriff this County as ever had !!!!!!!!!!!! I will never forget the intro. I was overwhelmed, by his statement. We became somewhat friends after this. He never forgot my name, or will I never forgot his, to this day. The most important thing that will cherish until I met him again, are "Memories". I will keep them close to my heart !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
