Obituary of Elmer G. Loudenslager

Elmer G. Loudenslager, 85, of Woodbury, NJ passed away peacefully at home on March 27, 2007. Elmer was born and raised in Philadelphia. He attended Northeast High School for Boys, leaving school in grade eleven to provide support for his eight younger siblings. Elmer enlisted in The US Navy in October of 1942, attaining the rank of Petty Officer, 1st Class while serving his country during WWII. In 1951, he moved to the City of Woodbury, where he lived for the remainder of his life. Elmer will best be remembered as a kind and decent man whose desire to help others far outweighed his desire for personal gain. In the Woodbury Little League Program, he was a Minor League Director for 3 years, Treasurer for 1 year, Vice-President for 2 years and President for 1 year. In the 1960?s, he twice ran for City Council and was defeated, the 2nd time by one vote. However, the 3rd time was the charm and Elmer was elected to 2 terms, one in 1972 and then again in 1975. His political ambitions ended in 1978. He later spent 16 years as a member of the Woodbury Zoning Board. Elmer will be truly missed by his dear friends and neighbors in the Evergreen Park section of Woodbury, where he resided for 55 years. His later years were spent simply enjoying life.. Elmer is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Helen nee Spicer and two sons, Gary of Deptford and Glenn of Runnemede. Dear brother of Jim of Jersey Shore PA and sisters Anna May Corle of Williamsport, PA, Kathryn Loudenslager of New Britain, CT, Iola Redden of West Deptford, NJ and June Loudenslager of Gibbstown, NJ. He was pre-deceased by brothers William, Norman and Timothy Funeral Service Saturday 12 PM in the McGuinness Funeral Home, 34 Hunter St., Woodbury, NJ 08096 where relatives and friends may call after 10 AM Interment will be private.
