Obituary of Whitfield T. Reddin
REDDIN, Whitfield T. ?Whit? of Woodbury suddenly on May 5, 2006. Aged 63 years.
Born in Suffern, NY, Whitfield was raised in Woodbury and graduated from Woodbury High School. He also achieved a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Glassboro State College. Whitfield was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Vietnam War. He was the former Post Commander of Army & Navy Garrison No. 52 in National Park. Whitfield was a 32nd degree Mason with the Florence A & M Lodge in Woodbury, as well as a member of the Deptford Elks Lodge.
From 1967 to 1980, he was a Patrolman for the Woodbury Police Department. Before retiring in 2004, Whitfield worked for NAVSEA-SSES for 24 years. While at NAVSEA-SSES, he was on the Philadelphia Design & Test Team, where he received numerous awards for a Plastics Waste Processor that is currently used in the U.S. Naval Fleet. Whitfield had worked for Zeisloft Trucking in Thorofare for the past several years. For many years, Whitfield was a Coach and President of the Woodbury Little League. He was also a volunteer Firefighter for the Friendship Fire Company in Woodbury.
In his spare time, he was an avid reader, who also enjoyed fishing, doing yard work, and working on model railroads.
Whitfield?s greatest treasure was spending time with his children and grandchildren, especially during the holidays. He will be remembered for his strong devotion and support for his family and others. His family will truly miss his memorable greeting of ?Hey Dude? and his afternoon naps.
Beloved father of Christina, Andrew, and Daniel Reddin. Loving grandfather of Dylan Reddin and Alyson Nass. Former husband and friend of Sandra Reddin Nee Redfield. Dear uncle of Stacie and Evan Halscheid, Lauren Smith and Jake and D.J. Redfield. Also fondly remembered by his former brother-in-laws, Brian Heather and David Betty Redfield and sister-in-law, Donna Charlie Halscheid. Predeceased by his parents, Dr. Lester and Mabel Nee Culberson Reddin and his sister, Paula Smith.
Viewing WED. 6:30 to 9 P.M. and THURS. at 11 A.M. in the McGUINNESS FUNERAL HOME, 34 Hunter St., Woodbury.
Funeral Service THURS. 12 NOON in the funeral home.
Interment Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Williamstown.
