Obituary of Mary Ellen Moore

Mary Ellen Moore (nee Connell)

Born to this life September 22, 1950

Born to eternal life on her 70th birthday: September 22, 2020

Legacy
Born in Richmond, Virginia, Mary Ellen was the eldest daughter of John Connell, Sr., and Mary Gavaghan Connell. Mary Ellen spent her early years moving around before settling in Towson, Maryland, and attending high school there at Notre Dame Prep. She then graduated from University of Delaware in 1972. In 1975, she moved to Woodbury, New Jersey, where she spent the rest of her life.

Mary Ellen loved Woodbury and made it to her mission to volunteer in as many organizations as possible to help make it a better place. Her volunteerism included West End Elementary PTA (president), Woodbury Little League, Woodbury Soccer Club, Woodbury Old-City Restoration Committee, Woodbury City Council candidate, Woodbury Junior-Senior High School PTSA, the Rotary Club, Woodbury City Public Schools’ Board of Education member, the Woodbury-Bury (England) Millennium Celebration, and the Greater Woodbury Cooperative Ministries’ Food Pantries.

Professionally, Mary Ellen worked as an athletic wear and sporting goods sales representative for Ampro Sports in Clifton Heights, Pennsylvania, for nearly 26 years. She officially retired in February 2020.

Away from work, Mary Ellen thoroughly enjoyed the time spent with her children and grandchildren, as well as her friends and neighbors. Whether reveling on her deck with family and friends, or hosting her annual St. Patrick’s Day “Hooley,” or playing games with her friends, her calendar was always full.

Family
Mary Ellen is the beloved mother of Megan (James) Riley and Brendan (Jennifer) Connell, who she shared with John Moore, Jr.; cherished Gran of Hannah, Colin, Zachary, and Kelsey; dear sister of Susan (Pat) Muth and John (Marie) Connell, Jr.; Aunt Mimi of many nieces and nephews.

Farewell Tribute
In accordance with her wishes, a traditional funeral will not be held. Instead, Mary Ellen wanted a large party thrown in her memory, which will be held at a later date. Her family will announce the details for Mary Ellen’s Celebration of Life when the gathering is possible.
