Bertie was a lovely lady. She and her husband were dear friends of my mom and dad for years.
I had the opportunity to visit her several years ago and we had a great time reminiscing about old times together.
Bertie was a lovely and kind lady. She certainly will be missed!
RIP my friend! You are in a much better place! Jean Blair Gillette

It was such a blessing to be able to work with and minister to Bertie these past seven years I knew her as the Chaplain at the United Methodist Communities at Pitman. Bertie's favorite activity was to people watch, keep tabs of all that was happening, and to speak up when things weren't right for herself or others. She even "fired" me once when she did not think I handled something correctly, but quickly "rehired" me when we had a meaningful conversation of grace and compassion. I admired Bertie's strength of faith and conviction of what was right as well as her wit. Our many conversations were always filled with gentleness, love, grace and wisdom. She has taught me a lot and I will always appreciate having been loved by and having loved Bertie. Bertie loved our Lord and was so grateful when the Lord brought her to be able to celebrate her 100th Birthday - she soaked up the attention and celebrations with dignity and grace. All who loved and knew her are in my prayers.

I was appointed pastor of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in West Deptford in July of 2016. Little did I know but I was about to fall in love with an incredibly beautiful and caring woman named Bertie Cast.
Bertie was one of the first "shut-in's" I visited as the new pastor and she greeted me with warmth and amazing dignity. Her smile beamed and her laughter filled up her perfectly arranged room.
Before COVID stopped visitation, I always looked forward to spending time with Bertie. She always made sure that both she and her room were in perfect condition. So many shared smiles and laughs. So many wonderfully positive stories about life and faith.
In life I hope and pray that we each get some unexpected special blessings from people who come into our life "out of nowhere" but remain forever. People who touch our hearts and make us smile. People we always look forward to sharing even a few moments with. Bertie Cast was one such person for me ... I was so lucky and blessed to know this lovely lady!
