Obituary
Obituary of Delores C. Killen
Delores Carrie (Simpkins) Killen, was born August 11, 1930 and passed on April 6, 2024 at the age of 93.
Family
She is survived by her children, Sherri (Kneller) and Guy, her granddaughters, Madison and Grace, and son-in-law, Frank. She is predeceased by her husband, Walt, her parents, George and Carrie and her sister, Eleanor.
Legacy
Delores was born, raised, and lived out her life in and around West Deptford, New Jersey.
She spent her youth as a devoted daughter. She could be found riding horses bareback down Old Crown Point Road with her lifelong friend, Mae, or climbing trees with her cousin, Lorraine. Delores’ hobbies consisted of caring for and tending to her loved ones, heading to the casinos to hit the slots with Lorraine, or simply sweeping her back patio.
In 1950, she met Walt at a dance in Camden and after a whirlwind romance of 13 months, they were engaged and married on September 15, 1951. They were married 50+ years, until his passing in 2002.
Delores loved: sweet treats, People magazine, country music, Dancing with the Stars, New England in the fall, and traveling with friends and family. She was known for her deep loyalty to her Phillies and Eagles. She loved making homemade iced tea when hosting Guy and all of his friends, and going to the Amish Market and Produce stand with Doris. She loved spending time with her nephew, Bill, and his wife, Suzanne, always laughing and sharing memories. She never missed an opportunity to spend time with her granddaughters, whether it was reading them stories, sharing popsicles, playing games, reminiscing, seeing Jersey Boys or vacationing together.
Delores didn’t love: snakes, when Andy Reid left the eagles, or how excellent Sherri was at procrastinating doing her chores! She didn’t love dividing her time between work and home, when things were out of place, or admitting she might be a bit stubborn.
To her daughter, Sherri, she leaves her love of friends and family and her flawless list making abilities!
To her son, Guy, she leaves her undying love.
Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray thee Lord my soul to keep; for if I die before I wake, I pray thee Lord my soul to take. Amen.
Delores Carrie gained her angel wings on April 6 at her home in West Deptford, NJ.
Rest in Peace.
